A lovely little Yakut finished up this week. Had to wait for the weather to clear for a photo shoot as it’s been terrible here in the Midlands this week.
Made from 01 tool steel, 4 1/2 inch blade. Forged to around 4mm in thickness. Dyed and stabilised Karelian birch handle,.

Dons a traditional style wrapped sheath with wooden insert, dyed deep mahogany finished with a accent along it’s edge. I absolutely love doing the flint knapped effect on the blade. Takes a fair eye and a even steadier hand to achieve.

This knife, is a traditional style knife of the Yakuts from Siberia, used for working with wood, hides, skins, fish and meat or for combat. The knife has been used in Yakutia for hundreds of years without significant changes in its design.
The Yakuts or Sakha people have been living in Sakha (Yakutia)’s territories for many centuries. Their language, oral history and livestock-herding tradition indicate that they migrated into the area from southern Siberia. In contrast to Sakha (Yakutia)’s more longstanding reindeer-herding communities, Sakha populations have lived by farming the horses and cattle they brought with them from the south, in addition to hunting.
