Yakut With Dyed Maple Birch Handle 4 300x225

A nice relaxing Sunday finishing up this right hand Yakut. 4mm 01 tool steel. dyed stabilised Maple Burr. Mosaic pins and patterned lanyard.

Donning a traditional sheath with wooden blade insert. I absolutely love making these and try my best to really make them pop!

Which I’m sure you’ll all agree that it does!

Have a great weekend everyone!

A little information

This knife, is a traditional style knife of the Yakuts from Siberia, used for working with wood, hides, skins, fish and meat or for combat. The knife has been used in Yakutia for hundreds of years without significant changes in its design.

The Yakuts or Sakha people have been living in Sakha (Yakutia)’s territories for many centuries. Their language, oral history and livestock-herding tradition indicate that they migrated into the area from southern Siberia. In contrast to Sakha (Yakutia)’s more longstanding reindeer-herding communities, Sakha populations have lived by farming the horses and cattle they brought with them from the south, in addition to hunting. Their way of life, including their shamanic religious tradition, has assimilated much from the Eveni and Evenki cultures they met when they moved into the area. https://www.abdn.ac.uk/ysyakh/themes/sakha-people/
